Bangalore Royal Challengers vs Kolkata KnightRiders

Match No :42 ,

Date 12-05-09

In a battle between the laggards of IPL 2009, Bangalore Royal Challengers finds themselves in a favourable position against Kolkata KnightRiders when they meet each other today in the return leg.

According to Castrol Index, Bangalore Royal Challengers (BRC) scores over Kolkata KnightRiders (KKR) not only in the overall Batting Momentum (BM) but also in the Bowling Efficiency. The table below shows how the two teams have performed in the bowling department in this IPL so far.

Team Wickets taken so far Team BE
KKR 40 106
BRC 50 129

It is interesting to note that though BRC have lost more wickets in this tournament so far, they have also captured more wickets than KKR. This propensity to take more wickets (than KKR bowlers) has put the team Bowling Efficiency (BE) of BRC at a higher plane.

In batting also, KKR is in a precarious situation as none of their batsmen has been consistently performing well in this tournament. The table below illustrates the performances of the batsmen of KKR vis-à-vis BRC’s.

KKR BM BRC BM
Brad Hodge 29 Jacques Kallis 31
Sourav Ganguly 30 Rahul Dravid 39
Morne Van Wyk 53 Mark Boucher 32
Yashpal Singh 12 Robin Uthappa 19
Wriddhiman Saha 23 Ross Taylor 22
Brendon McCullum 10 Shreevats Goswami 23

As the data suggests, barring Morne Van Wyk, all the other batsmen in KKR are having a poor tournament so far, which in turn has resulted in a low BM of 147 for the team. On the contrary, batsmen of BRC have been performing consistently which has contributed to BRC having a higher BM of 166 in the tournament so far.
