Kings XI Punjab vs Deccan Chargers: IPL 2009

Nothing less than victory matters

May 17, 2009

With the race to the semi-finals getting closer and tighter, nothing less than a victory matters to any team at this stage. Kings XI Punjab and Deccan Chargers are no exceptions when they face each other today in a crucial encounter.

Interesting to note that according to Castrol Index, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) wins most of their matches in which it displays better bowling (reflected in Castrol Index as Bowling Efficiency or BE). Brett Lee (BE of 62) has been the lead bowler for KXIP with an economy rate of 15%. While Irfan Pathan has lent good support to Lee, KXIP will be better off fielding their highest wicket-taker Yusuf Abdulla in today’s crunch match to provide impetus to their average BE of 124.

On the other hand Deccan Chargers (DC) will have to ensure that they do not let their batting (reflected in Castrol Index by Batting Momentum or BM) slide any further. Adam Gilchrist and Andrew Symonds need to continue performing consistently to bolster the BM 172 of DC. Good performance from RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha and the part-time bowling of Rohit Sharma can restrict the run flow for KXIP. According to Castrol Index, their decline in BM has caused DC to lose matches.

Interesting to note that Deccan Chargers are playing back-to-back matches on consecutive days. Will it have any impact on the performance on the field?
